HARRIS, NEW YORK. This is a residential facility for short-term medical care for elderly patients. The site is a forested landscape of gently rolling knolls circling around a wetland area. Each of the units is designed to house four patients in individual bedroom that project out from the mass of the building and have views into the natural landscape. The bedrooms open on their interior sides through a short transitional space into the light filled curving volume of a social space that includes comfortable seating in small clusters, dining tables and warming ovens for meals. There is also a medical room, a bedroom for an in-house supervisor, and a guest room for visitors to the patients. The four residential units loop around a wetland area connected by gently meandering paths through the woods, and a utility road. A path also connects to a community pavilion that makes a collective gathering space to enjoy the surrounding landscape.
