A feasibility study for a palliative care facility located in a rural landscape near Monticello, New York. The four-floor building has private individual bedrooms on the upper three floors that emerge from the main mass of the building to engage the outside, like enlarged bay windows, with the pond and forested landscape on the south side. The adjoining common spaces allow for casual, small group encounters and dining. The floors are penetrated with two generous openings allowing light from the roof skylights into the lower levels. The roof provides a landscape garden in which to meander and relax. The ground level has medical facilities, a kitchen, staff offices and bedrooms, and a small theater space.
