House on a peninsula in Lake Champlain’s western shore in Westport N.Y. for an expanding multi-generational family that will use it as a getaway from their busy lives. The floor plan was ‘grandfathered’ in over the layout of an existing house which had been moved to another location on the peninsula to make room for this much larger 4,400 sq. ft. building. Using the old house's footprint allowed a portion of the new larger house to be closer to the lake than required by current set back requirements. The main living areas are in this ‘head house’ box while the more private family room portions are pulled back from the lake shore. The client desired a one story structure which could absorb, in an easy-going manner, different configurations of the family.
